Triethylene Diamine (TEDA), also known as 1,4-Diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO), is a white crystalline compound with the molecular formula C₆H₁₂N₂. It is widely used as a highly efficient catalyst in the production of polyurethane foams, where it accelerates the reaction between isocyanates and polyols in both flexible and rigid foam systems. TEDA is also employed in curing epoxy resins and serves as an intermediate in pharmaceutical synthesis and other chemical applications. It is soluble in water and many organic solvents, with a characteristic ammonia-like odor. Although non-flammable, TEDA can cause irritation to the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract and should be handled with proper safety precautions.
